Supreme Court Affirms CIR Order

New Judges Appointed to CIR

Governor Johanns has recently appointed three new judges to serve on the Commission of Industrial Relations. On January 23, 2000 William G. Blake and G. Peter Burger were appointed to six-year terms, replacing David G. Cullan and Thomas H. Delay, whose terms had expired.

On February 10, 2000, Governor Johanns appointed Brenda J. Council to the CIR, to replace Frankie J. Moore, who resigned to accept an appointment to the Nebraska Court of Appeals. Judge Council's term will expire June 9, 2001, unless she is re-appointed.

Judge Blake is from Lincoln, where he is in private practice with the law firm of Pierson, Fitchett, Hunzeker, Blake & Katt. His primary practice is in the area of real estate and commercial litigation, with emphasis in eminent domain. His previous experience includes three years as Assistant Lincoln City Attorney and six years as Deputy Lincoln City Attorney.

Judge Burger is from McCook, where he practices law with the firm of Burger & Bennet, P.C. His emphasis is primarily on litigation, municipal, and public utility law. He served on the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 1983-1987.

Judge Council is from Omaha, where she practices law with the firm of Kutak Rock. Her practice emphasis is labor and employment law. Previous experience includes senior counsel for Union Pacific Railroad and field attorney for the National Labor Relations Board.
